Do you feel nervous or afraid of having dental work done? You are not alone. If you have not received the dental care you need because you are uncomfortable or fear the dentist, sedation dentistry may be right for you.
Even if you don't struggle with anxiety associated with dental work, but do enjoy the comfort and convenience of having all your treatment done in one appointment, sedation dentistry can help.
Here are the top reasons our patients have shared with us on why they choose sedation dentistry:
• Fear or anxiety of visiting the dentist
• Extensive treatment needs without time for multiple appointments
• Negative past experiences at the dentist
• Uncomfortable or fidgety in the dental chair
• Dislike of the sounds/smells of a dental office
• Fear of needles or unable to get numb
• Gag reflex or sensitive teeth and gums
With sedation, you'll be comfortable and relaxed and it will feel as if you slept through your appointment.
You can get all the care you need, even multiple procedures, all at once. Our patients tell us that they not only wake up feeling rested and relaxed with sedation, they also experience a faster recovery time.
Dr. Thaney explains, "when you feel anxious in the dental chair your body goes into a 'fight or flight' response, which can leave your muscles feeling tight and tired. Sedation allows your body to relax and you wake feeling refreshed and rested. Plus, all of your treatment is complete."
There are two levels of sedation we offer at Brockport Smiles: nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation.
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a minor sedative that leaves you feeling deeply relaxed but fully conscious. Oral sedation is a pill that you swallow prior to treatment and you will feel like you are in a sleep-like state, while leaving you conscious. Just be sure that you have arranged a ride to and from your appointment.
At Brockport Smiles, we have successfully helped patients who travel from across the Rochester area conquer their fear or get all their treatment done in one visit. Our team has mastered the art of sedation dentistry coupled with our gentle, caring and judgement-free approach, and with the help of modern dental technology. Nothing should stop you from receiving the dental care you need or deserve. We offer complimentary consultations so you can learn more about how sedation dentistry can help you reclaim your oral health.
