Many of our patients at Brockport Smiles come to us wanting to straighten their smile. Nearly every day we are asked by patients about Invisalign® aligners, so we figured we'd answer our top FAQs to help answer if Invisalign® is right for you.
Does it hurt?
Invisalign® aligners are significantly more comfortable than traditional metal braces. With Invisalign® aligners, there is no need to worry about broken brackets or wires stabbing and jabbing into your gums. Nor is there a need to worry about painful ad-ons, like rubber bands or additional brackets or wires.
Does is work?
It sure does! Invisalign® aligners are an incredibly efficient and effective way to straighten your smile, by gently shift teeth into the correct position in as little as a year.
Does it make me talk differently?
Not at all. Invisalign® aligners are customized to fit your mouth. With state-of-the-art multilayer SmartTrack® technology, the aligners fit like a glove over your teeth – meaning you shouldn't have any trouble talking as you normally would.
Can people tell I'm wearing the aligners?
While it is possible for people to notice that you are wearing an aligner, it is very difficult for most people to see. Invisalign® aligners are a clear and nearly invisible way of straightening your smile without sacrificing your confidence.
What am I allowed to eat?
Anything you want! Metal braces greatly limit what you can eat to avoid damaging the expensive (yet fragile) hardware. Invisalign® aligners are easily removable, so when it's time to eat, all you need to do is remove your aligner and enjoy. Just remember to put your aligners back in! You should wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day for the most effective results.
Is it difficult to brush my teeth?
Nope. With Invisalign®, there is no need to change your brushing or flossing routine like you would if you had metal braces. Just as when you eat, simply remove your aligners, and brush and floss your teeth as you normally would.
Is there any kind of maintenance or home care I need for my aligners?
Yes, but very little. Your saliva carries bacteria, and after hours of wearing your aligner, bacteria can begin to build up. Home care is simple though. When you remove your aligner to brush your teeth, take a minute to also gently brush and rinse your aligner.
