For most kids across America, Halloween stands for costumes, trick-or-treating, and nightmares of ghosts, goblins and monsters. But for us, the dental professional, our Halloween nightmare is the reality of all those kids eating gobs of sugary, cavity-causing candy! While we all love a sweet treat like Halloween candy now and again, the sheer amount of candy most kids get for Halloween is unhealthy and can lead to cavities, gingivitis and other dental issues not to mention the impact eating all that candy can wreak on your body!
Dr. Thaney bought back all excess Halloween Candy for $1 per pound- But don't worry! It's was for a great cause! Brockport Smiles is proud to partner with Operation Gratitude again for the 4th annual Halloween Candy Buy Back! This year Brockport Smiles Collected 282 pounds of candy!
Every year, Operation Gratitude sends 300,000+ individually addressed Care Packages to Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen deployed overseas, to their children left behind, and to First Responders, New Recruits, Veterans, Wounded Heroes, and their Care Givers. Each package contains snacks, hygiene products, entertainment, and handmade items, as well as personal letters of support. Dr Thaney can't in good conscious send hundreds of pounds of candy to our troops so we also include a plethora of toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss! We feel so grateful knowing we can be a part of bringing a smile to our beloved service men and women!
This year we had an amazing turn out from not only our young patients but by partnering with both the Tri County Youth Hockey League as well as Holy Cross Catholic Schools! Dr. Thaney awarded the top three highest classrooms from Holy Cross with an all-expenses paid pizza party! Brockport Smiles is passionate about combating childhood tooth decay while doing good and giving back in the community and overseas.
