Brockport Smiles dental practice was thrilled to be able to partner with Battle Sports Science to provide theBrockport Blue Devils JV and Varsity football teams with free fitted mouth guards for the upcoming football season.
Dr. Thaney, Dr. Kozlowski and the team at Brockport Smiles recently welcomed 42 JV and Varsity football players to the office to provide them with Battle Brand custom athletic guards. Brockport Smiles has hosted this event for the last three years and feels incredibly passionate about protecting the young athlete's mouths.
The American Dental Association has conducted multiple studies on mouth guards, and the results have consistently shown that mouth guards really do offer significant protection from sports-related injuries to the teeth and soft tissues. We all know that football is a rough sport. Even with a protective helmet on, a hard collision can still leave the athlete with a bone and teeth crunching injury. Mouth guards play a big part in preventing or minimizing damage to your mouth. The American Dental Association also projects that one third of all dental injuries are sports related.
While it seems obvious that the mouth guards should be worn during official games, ideally they should be worn during casual or pick-up games and practices alike. Basically whenever you participate in a sporting activity you should be wearing a mouth guard.
In anticipation of the event, Brockport Smiles teamed up with 58 Main BBQ and Brew and had 300 smoked wings on hand to feed these hungry teenage boys! It's safe to say that the wings were a huge hit and there weren't leftovers at the conclusion of the event!
Hopefully with their new, Battle Brockport Smiles mouth guards, the boys (and their parents) can play with confidence and feel safe doing so!
