Valentine's day has come and gone, but that doesn't mean the fun of February has ended. While only one day of February celebrates hearts, love and chocolate, the entire month also happens to be dedicated as Children's Dental Health Month!
On February 9th, in honor of Children's Dental Health Month, the Brockport Smiles team had the wonderful opportunity of visiting the kids of Kendall Elementary School. Teacher's Kristy Markham, Sarah Cole and Carrie Schutz, as well as their 42 bright students, all welcomed us into their kindergarten classes with big smiles and open arms.
We had such a blast with the young students as we taught them all about the importance of brushing, flossing and seeing the dentist regularly. In addition to learning about how to take care of their oral health, the kids also received fun fact sheets, temporary (very cool!) Brockport Smiles tattoos, as well as dental health kits. Each of the kids' health kits came with what we consider the dental homecare essentials: a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss.
In addition to teaching the kids about the importance taking care of their teeth, we also wanted to show the kids that there is nothing to fear when it comes to seeing the dentist. In fact, they might even have a nice time and have reason to smile when they visit the dentist.
We believe in taking a proactive approach when it comes to dental health especially when it comes to our littlest patients. We encourage daily brushing and flossing as well as keeping up with regular dental visits. By instilling good oral health habits early in children, you can help them develop health habits that can last a lifetime and diminish their risks for developing cavities and other more serious dental problems.
Help your kids maintain a healthy and vibrant smile by teaching the importance of brushing, flossing and visiting the dentist. Call today to schedule an appointment for you and your whole family (585) 416-2191.
